Ok, so I thought of something else feminist related for you. Last semester I tried to start a feminist club at my college and met a lot of backlash, which I was frankly surprised about. I wrote a constitution, got the necessary signatures and a faculty advisor and took it to the woman in charge of clubs who said my club was too controversial. I just looked at her stunned for a second and she said, “I know that we have a marijuana club, but all they do is try to legalize the drug, nothing actually invasive to people’s rights.” Excuse me, did she just call feminism invasive to the student’s rights?

Then in a sardonic tone she said, are you going to allow “men” in your group. I said feminism was for everyone. We would be inclusive of anyone who wants to join as long as they can show respect for the other members. She scoffed at me and asked if I would haze people. I said I’ve never participated in one nor would I start now. She said “oh, well you should know what it is if you claim youre…. Pff… feminist.”

She then proceeded to ignore me for the next two months and said she decided not to open my emails because she didn’t deem them important. I went in for a fifth time and she said shed be “right on it” and shooed me away. I never heard back.

I had no idea I’d be met with such adversity.
