Has anyone seen Once Upon a Time? I started watching it recently and was disappointed at the adoption tales they have been weaving. The woman on the right is the adoptive mother and evil queen. She adopted the birth child of the woman on the left. The child does not like her adoptive mother and sets out to find Emma, the birth mother to bring her back to his home town. The show then uses terms such as “tossed him away” and later informs the viewers that Emma was coerced into “tossing away her child.”

Although in some respects, this show makes the viewers look at the power dynamics between these two women, it also allows the viewers to hold onto their old ideas of birth and adoptive parents in opposition.
